Agribusiness small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are critical to employment generation, food security, and rural economic development in Nigeria. However, persistent challenges including inadequate infrastructure, limited access to finance, climate variability, and weak value-chain integration continue to constrain their growth and competitiveness. This study assessed the opportunities, constraints, and sustainable entrepreneurship pathways shaping agribusiness SMEs within the cassava value chain in Imo, Akwa Ibom, and Ogun States of Southern Nigeria.

The article explores the opportunities and operational bottlenecks faced by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) expanding across the high-density Lagos-Abidjan corridor (spanning Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Côte d'Ivoire). It demonstrates that successful regional integration requires combining macro-level free trade agreements with a deep mastery of grassroots, informal cultural trade networks.
