I. Introduction
I chose to intern with AAE because I strongly identify with its mission of poverty reduction. My previous visits to newly enrolled students from low-income families allowed me to witness poverty firsthand, strengthening my determination to contribute to this cause. As nearly 70% of the world’s poor live in Africa, promoting economic development there is an urgent priority.
The task sub-option I selected was a SWOT analysis, conducted on February 28, 2026. The purpose was to examine the company’s external opportunities and threats from a sustainability perspective and provide practical recommendations for its expansion in East Africa and beyond.
The entrepreneur I selected is Olle Olsson, founder of Global Mineral House Ltd (Profile: https://allafripreneurs.org/my-profile/uid/4201/). I chose him because he is a visionary Swedish entrepreneur with international experience, including ventures in medical technology and efforts to help Swedish SMEs expand into Africa. His global outlook and sense of social responsibility are evident. The company’s strong emphasis on sustainability also aligns with my academic interests.
II. External Factors Analysis
(1) Opportunities
First, the global green transition creates significant growth potential. As ESG principles gain influence worldwide, positioning sustainability at the core of corporate strategy can attract investment and enhance competitiveness.
Second, the AAE platform provides valuable networking opportunities. Through it, the company can connect with professionals in mining and finance, learn from peer enterprises, and strengthen strategic capabilities.
Third, the improving investment climate in East Africa and increasing regional integration offer favorable conditions for partnership expansion and market access.
(2) Threats
Financial pressure is a key challenge. Green transformation requires substantial upfront investment, while competition for funding in the mining sector remains intense.
In addition, effective mentor–mentee matchmaking may be difficult. Limited high-quality enterprises and concerns over commercial confidentiality could hinder knowledge-sharing and cooperation.
Finally, regulatory and geopolitical risks must be considered. Changes in mining or environmental policies, along with regional instability, may disrupt operations and increase uncertainty.
III. Conclusion
Overall, Global Mineral House Ltd benefits from strong international orientation and a clear commitment to sustainable development. Supported by East Africa’s mining potential and AAE’s resources, it has promising growth prospects.
However, to achieve sustainable expansion, the company should place ESG principles at the center of its strategy, diversify financing channels, fully utilize AAE’s network, and proactively monitor regulatory changes. By balancing opportunities and risks, it can pursue long-term growth while contributing to value creation and poverty reduction in Africa.
