The reason why I chose to intern with AAE is because I believe that I can combine theoretical knowledge with practice, and transform the knowledge I have learned into output that can help businesses. I chose green business model research. And the entrepreneur I have chosen is Naftali Kiprono, whose business is about honey. His demand is for a green business model, and agriculture is easily linked to green business models, so I chose this entrepreneur.
Body
Naftali Kiprono’s country is Kenya, so I searched for information about Kenya in the report on the AAE official website. Through the article ‘Towards a Green Nation: The Case of Kenya’, I learned about the Kenyan government’s active development of a green economy strategy and its achievements. In the article ‘Greening Strategies in Kenya’, a case of a sugar factory developing an effective green business idea is presented. The successful approach of this company is clean power generation. This sugar factory has similarities with the honey factory of the entrepreneur I am studying. Therefore, the successful experience of this sugar factory can be used as a reference for how honey factories can implement green business models.
To provide advice on green business models for entrepreneurs, it is important to first understand the background situation. In addition to the policy support mentioned earlier and the successful experience of a similar enterprise, another article also mentioned the relevant situation of Kenyan agriculture. In the article ‘The Rise of Agripreneurship in Kenya: Opportunities and Challenges for SMEs’, it is mentioned that one of the agricultural entrepreneurship opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises is to embrace sustainable agricultural practices. Renewable energy can also be considered.
From this, I can derive green business recommendations for the honey factory of the entrepreneur I choose. First of all, the entrepreneur need to practice sustainable development. In the process of honey production, sustainable methods can be adopted to strike a balance between economic growth and ecological conservation, rather than pursuing economic development at the expense of the ecological environment. In addition, the energy used in the honey production process can be produced in a clean manner. Finally, when packaging finished honey, do not over package to avoid wasting resources. These are all methods that the enterprise can consider adopting in its green business model.
Conclusion
The green business model is in line with the trend, relevant concepts of the United Nations, and also conducive to the dual development of economy and ecological environment. To implement green business models in the development of enterprises, it is not only necessary to have policy support, but also to have a green business awareness and upgrade technology to adopt a green development approach. Only in this way can we truly implement the green business model.
