  1. Introduction

I chose to intern with AAE due to its core role as a bridge for China-Africa youth innovation and entrepreneurship cooperation. Under the China-Africa project matchmaking task, this report designs a resource synergy cooperation model for SAICO, a Congolese agro-industrial enterprise, by aligning China’s agricultural strengths with the enterprise’s development needs.

  • Entrepreneur and Business Overview

David NGONGO ILUNGA, founder of SAICO (Société Agro-Industrielle et de Commerce) in Likasi, DRC, leads the enterprise focusing on agricultural production and commercial services, with natural organic honey as its core product. SAICO is in urgent need of financial, material, and technical support for production modernization, logistics optimization, and market expansion, while also seeking AI solutions, business matchmaking and mentoring services, showing great potential for structured China-Africa agricultural cooperation.

  • Key Context

Agriculture is a pillar of the DRC economy, contributing 17.09% to its 2024 GDP (far exceeding the global average). Africa’s honey sector leads global growth, with 223,000 tonnes of output in 2023 (12% of the global total). The 2024 global honey trade hit $2.28 billion, and the organic honey market is projected to grow at a 6.8% CAGR by 2031, creating strategic opportunities for African producers. China, the world’s largest honey exporter, boasts advanced agricultural modernization capacity, with mature processing, packaging, digital marketing systems and rich experience in African technology transfer and industrial chain extension.

  • Proposed Matchmaking Models

AI-Driven Production Modernization PartnershipChina provides SAICO with smart beekeeping equipment and technical training, replicating the smart beehive model adopted in Beijing’s Fangshan District with solar-powered sensors that monitor temperature, humidity and hive weight in real time. Drawing on China’s experience in training African agricultural professionals, targeted sessions will be delivered to SAICO’s team, reducing labor intensity and stabilizing yields amid the DRC’s infrastructure constraints. This model will boost honey quality and production efficiency, enhancing SAICO’s competitiveness in regional markets.

Value Chain & Market Expansion ModelChina supports SAICO with advanced honey processing technology, standardized packaging and digital marketing channels, referencing the Hunan Jianglai Food’s Kenyan macadamia processing model to upgrade SAICO from raw honey supply to value-added products (premium organic honey, bee derivatives). Leveraging China’s status as the world’s top honey exporter, SAICO will gain access to China’s e-commerce and offline retail channels, while learning from China’s digital marketing strategies for agricultural products to build a localized brand and explore regional and international markets.

Logistics Optimization SupportAiming at the DRC’s severe logistics bottlenecks, China will share mature infrastructure construction experience, such as the Kenyan Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project’s scientific planning model, to help SAICO optimize warehousing and transportation links. Combined with China’s digital logistics management tools, it will reduce the DRC’s high logistics costs caused by poor transportation facilities and improve the efficiency of honey product distribution.

  • Conclusion

This tailored matchmaking model integrates Chinese agricultural technology, industrial chain experience and digital solutions with SAICO’s modernization demands, effectively boosting productivity, extending the industrial value chain and driving sustainable rural development in the DRC. It exemplifies AAE’s strategic role as a platform to connect African entrepreneurial potential with China’s technological and industrial resources, realizing win-win China-Africa cooperation.
